Landers Bay Resort & Spa is a place for peace and quiet, and even a bit of rain shouldn’t spoil that. Being tucked away in Vuda means we have a great community around us. If the weather turns, it’s actually a great excuse to slow down, learn a bit about the local culture, and just enjoy the atmosphere of the resort without feeling like you have to be out on a boat.
We love being close to Vuda Marina, but when a storm warning is out, it’s best to stay away from the docks. The wooden piers get incredibly slippery, and the surge from the boats can be unpredictable. It’s much safer to watch the activity from the safety of our restaurant deck with a nice warm coffee.
When you’re moving between the airport and the resort in the rain, things can get wet fast. We recommend using waterproof dry bags or even just heavy-duty bin liners inside your suitcases for your electronics and clean clothes. There’s nothing worse than arriving at your bure only to find your “dinner outfit” is soaked!
If it’s too wet to be outside, it’s the perfect time to connect with our team. Many of our staff are from the nearby Veiseisei village and they have amazing stories about the history of this area. Sitting down for a chat is a great way to learn about the local culture in a way that you just can’t get from a guidebook.
Even though we have backup power, it’s always smart to keep your phones and tablets topped up. If the weather is really heavy, you might want to settle in and watch a movie or stay in touch with your family back home. Our Wi-Fi is pretty solid, so you can keep everyone updated on your “tropical adventure.”
If you know you’re traveling during the wet season, try not to overpack. It’s much easier to manage one small bag when you’re dashing from the car to the lobby in a downpour than it is to lug around three big suitcases. Plus, you’ll probably spend most of your time in a swimsuit and a sarong anyway!
Veiseisei is where the very first Fijians are said to have landed. There’s a real sense of history here, and the village elders are the best people to tell you all about it.
